Recently, Jilin Huaqiao University of Foreign Languages (HQUFL) has been renamed as Jilin International Studies University (JISU) under the approval of the Ministry of Education of China (MOE).
Jilin International Studies University (JISU), founded in 1995, is a key university in Jilin Province. The University was approved by the MOE as a private teaching organization to offer four-year undergraduate programs in 2003 and obtained the authorization to confer bachelor's degrees and run joint master's degree programs in 2005. In 2006, all assets of the University were contributed to society under judicial notarization. In 2007, the University was approved as a provincial key university in Jilin Province. With the approval of the State Council, in 2010 the university became a pilot unit for the study of the national reform of education system，exploring Non-profit Private Education in China. In the year 2011, approved by the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, the University was among the first batch of private colleges and universities to offer graduate professional degree programs. In 2016, it was among the first batch of private universities in China selected as the "National Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in Central and Western China." In 2017, the University successfully passed the auditing assessment conducted by the MOE, in order to be developed as an accredited institution offering Doctoral degree programs under the authority of the Academic Degree Commission of Jilin Province. In 2018, the University was accredited as an institution granting Master degree programs approved by the Academic Degree Commission of the State Council.
JISU has presented itself as a demonstrative base of the structural reform of national non-governmental higher education and as a teaching institution which focuses on nurturing application-oriented talents in foreign languages and foreign affairs in Jilin Province. It is designed as a unique World Multicultural Education Center by UNESCO, endowed with the most foreign languages in Northeast China. It is committed to fostering translators and interpreters majoring in “Multiple languages +” in pursuit of innovating education modes of postgraduates.
JISU is committed to following socialist and non-profit school-running models for public welfare without personal reward.
